one of the key tracks on pajaro sunrise latest studio album kulturkatzenjammer, the happy-sad *long forgotten flowers*, gets a hypnotic house treatment from hivern veteran marc piñol. the melancholy disappears to make way for a more hedonistic sound, more than doubling the songs length in the process.
more dance floor action comes from up and coming rbma alumnus clip!, who reshapes the introverted *good to see you* into a straight-up piano house monster.
as if that werent enough, these fine remixes are accompanied by the rather eerie non-album track *guess things happen that way*, a cover of the cowboy jack clement-penned 1958 johnny cash hit. yuri méndez, jr. at his darkest.

klasse wrecks welcomes bristol-based marco bernardi to its ranks following strong releases for clone, delsin, rawax, planet e, and most recently the kelly twins happy skull label. spacejam provides an ep of demented drums, fiddling electronics and refreshing originality, showcasing the signature sound of the studio-obsessed scottish born dj and producer. his idiosyncratic style runs through the three tracks here, from the space jack and green velvet-inspired vocals of the title track, through the rubbery funk of >no i didnt< and frenetic acid of oist mal.

keeping in line with the trademark birdsmakingmachine sound, comes the fifth release on their self-entitled label, bmm 004. with a more straight-to-the-point approach than its predecessor, the ep starts off on the dance floor, with rumbling bass lines and heavy metallic snares juggling with effects-laden delicacies on the a1s >ahora vengo<. the arrival of >ash but not arthur< on the a2 calms things down bit and takes the listener for a gentle journey through ambient pads and cleverly swinging hi hats, while on the flip, things get a little more bouncy in >oscars critical jack<, which is mostly due to the fact its main ingredient – the solid playful bass line – blends effortlessly with the higher frequency spices, keys, strings and rhythmic parts. the end credits roll down with >bonfume<, another relatively smooth yet jacking swinger that could either be used to kick it up a notch in a warm-up set or be danced to while finding yourself at an afterhour.

the last few years have seen chicago footwork rise to international success, and traxmans debut album - *the mind of traxman* on planet mu - played no small part in that. it showcased cornelius fergusons brilliant ability to synthesise the beat digging of classic hip hop with the high-speed abstraction of footworks house-derived beat science. the selection of tracks on this second chapter show a slightly different take on traxman s abilities. instead of bringing in concepts from other genres, he simply creates a wider variety of footwork, made with a minimal, reduced palette. often just one or two samples are selected and diced into brain-blurring cubist puzzles that bear little relation to their original sources, or anything else for that matter.

martin lewis, the insane house kid from berlin is breaking bad with his new and massive “rewind ep” on freebase records. with his first strike “believer” he delivers a flat footed house banger with a grumpy bassline, flavoured with an hypnotizing vocal sample. the second track “ breaking bad”, a genuine groove tool, is also influenced by martins garage credo. sublime melody riffs are competing with a wiggling bassline. tuff city kids, aka gerd janson and phillip lauer come up with two mind- boggling remixes of “believer”. at the “acid remix” they take out their breaky 90s acid drumset. this one is dry, jacking and sophisticatedly tribal. the “tuff city kids remix” starts with desert- dry acid elements which grow up to an uplifting acid soundwall. a true “jack in the box”.

emotional especial gathers pace with an eighth release from richard sen, a man whose cultured touch has had a hand in various strands of the uk underground for the past two decades. graffiti artist, graphic designer, music curator, dj and producer are all vocations richard sen has done at one point or another. here he goes solo with the ghost train ep, a dark and brooding release of old school meets new school house jack that takes its cues from 80s new york, italian house and the nascent uk acid house that sen himself documented with aplomb on a 2012 compilation for strut. naggingly familiar samples and a low slung box jam groove drive the spectral title cut forward, whilst sens mastery of delay is shown with aplomb on the dub version that closes out the record. nestled in between is the highlight however in *meteor shower* where discoid basslines merge with psychedelically charged keys and hollowed out steppers percussion.
